Ars Magica (The Art of Magic), by Jonathan Tweet & Mark Rein-Hagen with Atlas Games, is a quasi-realistic Medieval Role-Playing Game set in Mythic Europe during 1200 AD.
Imagine a world where myth is real. Faeries dance in forest glades, angels protect the Church, demons corrupt the weak, and wizard wield magic beyond the ken of other mortals.
You play these magi (Mah-gi), gathered in covenants with your allies and servants, unlocking secret powers and creating wonders. When adventures draw you out into the medieval world, your stories are the stuff of legend.
Utilizing a Troupe-Style play system, players create their primary character, as well as a pool of secondary characters to switch between. With off-time beeing spent developing spells, skills and item, with adventures bringing their characters to bear, the Story Guide controls the environment but can step down to allow another player to guide the others through stories of their own design.
The only type of dice you will need is a d10 (though maybe more than one per player), but one dice means many rolls, and many roles are available in the realm of Ars Magica.
