Top-left: Penn Central 5260 leaves Ansonia, PA and starts its southbound run down the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. Top-right: A local train sorts its cars around the Wellsboro station. Bottom-right: Conrail switcher 9245 leads empty cars from the Wellsboro glass plant back north to Gang Mills, NY. Bottom-left: Two colorful New York Central RR trains pass in the Canyon at Darling Run. All of these historic photos were actually taken in 2024 using forced perspective. After capturing these scenes, the photographer picked up the locomotives, freight cars, tracks, and foreground scenery, and took them all home. Yes, all of the trains are actually 1:29 scale models, posed against the backgrounds where their full-size versions once ran. The tracks may be gone, but nothing can take away the memories of Wellsboro-area railroading, with its majesty, power, and vital service to the community.

Photographer Steven Goehring is a Wellsboro resident who is constantly involved in various transportation history projects. He wrapped up a comically long list of model-train-related jobs by working as the conductor on the Tioga Central Railroad in 2012. He shares his home with his wife, their cats, his under-restoration 1951 bus, and probably too many model trains, buses, and trolley cars.

Submit your photo of an iconic image of Wellsboro or the surrounding beauty of the greater Tioga Potter County area, and your image could be a puzzle too!

Proceeds from the sale of our local puzzles are used to encourage creative thinking and the arts in our community. From promoting our photographers and local artists through our membership in the "PA Route 6 Artisan Trail," to hosting community art projects at the annual art show, encouraging creative thinking through free events in Pop's Playroom, creating the annual Wellsboro Comic Con, and donating to local arts programs, Pop's Culture Shoppe is proud to make this part of our mission.
